I'm repairing a forty year old lap quilt made by my parents. They used fabrics from family clothing—including some wildly flowered pants I remember wearing in fourth grade. Each square holds a memory of my childhood—remembering my mom’s summer dress, my brother’s corduroy pants, my dad’s dress shirt. All of have passed on but this cloth, this carefully made quilt, is such a wonderful tactile way of feeling their presence.

As I work to mend this quilt {from many years of loving use} I’ve noticed the quality of the weave of these fabrics; the sturdiness of the cloth and the pigments that created their fun patterns. I wish all fabrics today were made this well.

In my work as a printmaker I try to find the highest quality towels/inks I can afford. I think of them like this quilt—I hope they’ll be drying your dishes for years to come and looking as great as when you purchased them from me.
