Hard Drive Smard Drive Who Cares
Oh, hi there. It’s been awhile. I didn’t forget you. My hard drive and external hard drive decided to pull a prank on me and die on the same day. Yep. Fried hard drive.
And so this etching I made in the early 80’s seemed a good choice to post because that’s kind of how it felt to have months of work go “poof” and disappear—fragmented and a bit up in the air. It turns out one needs a back up drive for a back up drive for another back up drive— in this digital age. It kind of makes me yearn for the early 80’s and the sweet innocence of ink, paper and the permanence of all of that.
It’s not all gloom and doom. A handy local repair guy replaced the blasted hard drive and it turns out I backed up some things on another external hard drive last month before I left on a trip. (Yay!) Fingers crossed the repair guy can retrieve other bits of my digital life from the dead external hard drive.
