I start a painting with a basic idea and after that there is a constant refrain in my mind saying to the painting, “What do you want to be?” I like taking photos of the work-in-progress because it is a way to capture the process.
Spreadsheets
I'm getting ready for my upcoming show at the Hearst in Cedar Falls. Lots of work ahead of me as I enter in all the info on each piece into a spreadsheet. This is when I wish I "excelled" (haha) at typing. In college I typed my term papers in the wee hours of the morning because my ADD brain was too tired by then to distract me...!

Slice O Love
I'm serving up a "slice" of a painting I've been working on. Yesterday was filled with a million chores but sitting down to work on this at the end of the day under the warm glow of my lamp was such a gift.
Fingers crossed, but I hope it makes it into my show next month at The Hearst. Lots more work to do to be ready...!

Magic Blue Lines
Art supplies were in short supply as a kid, so most of the time I drew on left over ruled three ring binder paper. Those light blue lines are magic to my eyes even now.

Watercolor studies
On winter break I also came across a display of plastic horse figurines. I pulled out my trusty watercolor travel kit and painted a quick sketch. It took me back to my childhood when my friend Beth showed me her collection of horses and Barbie dolls. They were so cool!
